What interests you most about the industry you recruit in?
The finance department is not only the backbone of every business, but it is also the driving force. Finance professionals create strategies and carry out the work that leads businesses to success.
What do you do when you are not in the office?
I spend time with my 10 months old daughter, I like to go to music festivals and I attend CrossFit classes at least twice a week because I like to lift heavy things.
What do you love most about recruitment?
The world of recruitment can change on a daily basis, it is a challenging but very rewarding job and I enjoy the excitement that all of that brings. From the thrill of finding that perfect candidate for that client you really wanted to impress, to finding that perfect role for someone.
What is the best bit of advice you would give to somebody looking to get into the industry you recruit in / recruitment?
Be personable. Listen to your candidates and clients and really get to know them on a personal level, doing this means you will win their confidence but also helps you to understand what they “really need” – not just what they “think they want”.
How did you get into recruitment?
Like most of us, I fell into it by chance, I was a retail store manager and had been talking to a recruiter about another retail management job when they asked if I had ever considered recruitment…… and I have never looked back!
What did you do before recruitment?
Retail Management, in the furniture and phone industry.
Who inspires you?
J.K Rowling – she conceived the idea of Harry Potter whilst riding a train from Manchester to London and was living just above the poverty line. Her collection of stories were rejected 12 times before finally being published in 1997 and she is the perfect demonstration of perseverance. She became the world’s first billionaire author but lost that status when she gave much of her earnings to charity.
Interesting fact about you…
I am obsessed with Minis. I have had numerous cars since 2006, but every single one of them has been a version of a Mini, my most recent being a Mini Countryman, which is actually not very mini at all!
