Unemployment in the East of England has fallen for the fourth successive quarter, figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicate.

Unemployment nationwide has fallen by 0.4%, leaving the current UK unemployment rate at 6.2% (May-July), down from 6.6% on the previous quarter (Feb-Apr).

In the East of England, figures fell in line with the national average (-0.4%), leaving the overall unemployment rate for the region at 4.9%, trailing only the South East (4.4%).

Unemployment overall has continued to fall year-on-year, with the proportion of the population unemployed down 1.5% on 2013 (May-July). The East of England saw a decrease of 1.8% over the same period.
